It seems there is a link on Vimeo but requires a password:
Hi Jeffrey,
Sorry for the late reply. I know there are some copies floating around on the internet, but I wouldn't know where exactly to help you out with that...
I don't know whether that Vimeo link is actually hers, but maybe you can try your luck getting in touch with her directly?
Her email address is: [email protected]
Kind regards,
Brecht.
Thanks Brecht, I’ll give that a try.
Jeff
I just watched this impressive doc. Does anyone know where this quotation comes from (about watching Flaming Creatures at Exprmtl:
I finally got a look at the outlawed Creatures at three o’clock in the morning. Forty cineaste and critics who had been herded past the unbelieving eyes of the night porter at Mekas’ hotel into a small bedroom. My peculiar vantage point was in an arm chair on the lap of Variety’s correspondent Gene Musskovitch, with a large Christmas tree between us and the screen. The French contingent was sprawled out on the floor, Agnes Varda’s head popping into the image from beneath. Jean Luc Goddard smoked glasses and profile breaking into the frame regularly from the side. And during tense replies to the occasional knock at the door, which fortunately did not turn out to be the Belgium gendarme, Roman Polanski enliven the breaks with improvised embrouille chinoise.
Hi Michael,
I will need to check my archives for this - I can't recall who wrote it. For a second I thought it was David Curtis in The International Times, but I'm not sure - I think that journal didn't exist yet in 1964.
I though it was Gene Moskowitz, but as the writer claims to have sat on his lap, that's of course not possible either.
I'll get back to you when I retrieve the article.
Kind regards,
Brecht Debackere
Thank you. It would be helpful for some research I’m doing on Barbara Rubin and Mekas. Thanks so much! Mike
This situation is also referenced in Freedom to Offend by Raymond J. Haberski Jr. if that helps.
Thanks, I'll check out Freedom to Offend, which I didn't previous know about. Mike
